Where your attention goes….

“Where your attention goes, life goes.”

                                              Martha Beck

Blog 522Seems simple enough, until you think about it.  At first glance it probably occurs as just another one of those homilies—perhaps said in a different way—that our parents used to use to keep us in line.  You know, such as “Ask yourself is your glass half full or half empty,” or, “You make your bed, you have to lie in it.”

I heard all of them when I was growing up; they were mainly used to keep me from complaining about something that wasn’t going my way.  I totally ignored the person, and the wisdom they had to offer.

But what if Martha Beck is right?

This insight is particularly useful when we are stuck, unable to move things forward, unable to get what we want; and we yearn for relief from the sinking feeling that it will always be this way.

Start looking at where your life is going and where your attention is?  If you do that, you will have the ability to shift your attention to something more creative, joyful, and fulfilling than whatever roadblocks you were paying such rapt attention to.

You are in charge of your life.  Start watching what your attention goes to when you are stuck.  Putting your attention on what will move you forward, instead of on what is keeping you stuck, will get you moving again.  You will see new actions to take and new possibilities for your self.

I look forward to hearing your ideas about this.  Let me know what happens.
